Our bootcamp kicks off with a 30-hour Introductory Course, which teaches the fundamentals of visual, UI, and UX design. The University of Wisconsin–Madison UI/UX Design Bootcamp teaches learners to use practical, theoretical, and technical knowledge throughout their professional journey. Our full program offers hands-on training for industry-leading tools and software, such as Miro to organize research, Adobe Creative Suite for designing digital assets, Figma to create mockups, HTML and CSS for front-end development, and more.

30-Hour Introductory Course | 370-Hour Extended Program

Introductory Course

You will learn the foundations of visual, UI, and UX design before completing an assessment exam and meeting with an admissions advisor to determine whether this is the right field for you.

How to Think Like a Designer

Learn what is required to think and act like a successful UI/UX designer. You will learn about common design processes, workflow methodologies and the larger digital landscape, such as IoT, VR/AR, and digital solutions in physical spaces.

Visual Design Essentials

Focus on the essentials of good design and the fundamental skills you will need to succeed as a design professional. This course provides a working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign.

UI Design Essentials

Build your visual design knowledge and focus on UI fundamentals, such as designing responsive websites using a grid layout. You will become familiar with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and how to ensure your design meets the requirements.

UX Design Essentials

You will learn how to create common UX assets and how to select the best option among your choices. This course explores how to apply information architecture to clearly organize the information of an app or website.

Conducting Research

Learn to design and conduct market and user research using remote tools such as Miro, Zoom, and Otter.ai. You will then be able to apply your research to your designs in order to create high-fidelity prototypes.

Ideating & Prototyping

This course focuses on creating sketches and paper prototypes before moving on to low- to mid-fidelity wireframes. The goal of these to help you to create efficient designs that are user-friendly and fun to use.

Usability Testing

Learn how to identify and execute common types of usability tests to your designs. You will also learn how to interpret your findings and apply them accordingly.

High-Fidelity Design

Designers use high-fidelity mockups and prototypes to represent the product as close to the finished version as possible. In this course, you will use color, typography, iconography, and images to design a beautiful, accessible, and functional product.

Microinteractions

This course introduces learners to areas of interaction design such as crafting animations and virtual interactions. You will explore the principles of animations and the types of transitions you can use between digital states.

Team Project

Work in small teams to create a final product that showcases the skills, knowledge, and tools you have developed throughout the program. You will get first-hand experience working on a design team, completing a project on a deadline, and presenting your designs to clients. Students can feature this in a professional portfolio.

Introduction to Front-End Development

Gain an in-depth understanding of web development, coding, and how a website is built. Learns will be introduced to the basics of HTML and CSS.

Introduction to Digital Marketing

Get first-hand knowledge of the inner workings of digital marketing, such as SEO, copywriting, and developing designs for social platforms.

Design Portfolios

During this portion, you will be able to consolidate case studies from your course projects to develop a high-quality professional portfolio. Before finishing the program, you’ll have two one-on-one meetings with members of our student success team to help you prepare to enter the workforce.
